Day 2 in Battambang, setting up our home

I can’t believe it: The Battambang monks didn’t wake me up this morning. But damn it, I woke up before them.

First step was breakfast, but we had a call from the electrician Mr Wise, thus no breakfast. But all the electrics will start tomorrow and all completed in a week.Bric-a-brac_Battambang_roof_cement Bric-a-brac_Battambang_roof

The re-concreting of the roof should be completed today, as well. I love the workers:  when we come in, they all stop and greet us. Some even standing in a pile of wet cement.

And our first friday night in Battambang? We took a Tuk Tuk off to a local restaurant that was closed, so ended up at Apsara Restraunt, which was in the middle of nowhere. Live music and great food.  The highlight for me was the raw beef salad, although Robert preferred the deep fried frog legs with an ambrosial crumbed topping of crisp fried garlic and shallot; we both liked the deep fried Tonle Sap red fish buried under an avalanche of crystalline fried basil leaves.  Saving the local Sky night club until tonight…

  1. Day Two without you! I have been trawling through airfares and am delighted to see that its not too expensive to get to you. I’ll wait until your dunny is in and my bedroom is ready. As you know, rice porridge is my favourite – it’s about as gruelling as I want to get.
My ABC radio show is going down a treat and am loving it. The formal tender on the Cafe is due in on the 20ieth. If we are successful, then it could be a very long time before I get to see you. I trust the light is upon you and that life in Battembang continues to be bright and chipper each day. What a wonderful feeling it must be to change things – I am hugely envious but still very angry that you have left me stranded here. Leap and the net will appear ! Always xx

First toilet to be installed on Monday, and inexpensive fun hotels under $30 p/n if the rest our new abode isn’t to nick before the container arrives mid July.
